Day 146: Oh Hello!
One of the joys a pastor has is getting to know guest speakers very well. I can recall having to pick up one speaker from Milwaukee and driving back 2 hours. Now think about this...here is a person you have only known from other speaking engagements, a band, etc. Now you pick this person up and are to be in the car with them for two hours. Regardless of the amount of time it takes to get from the airport...you will be spending allot of time with this person.
If it is someone that drove in than chances are, you will be spending minimal time with them. Please don't get me wrong...this can be allot of fun! I remember back in November of 2009 when I spent allot of time with, Ted Haggard. It was awesome! This past weekend I got to spend a lot of time with Darin Hufford. I can only recall one person that I brought in where I was glad when the weekend was over. This person thought he was God's gift to contemporary Christian music and I could not wait to be done with him.
The key to all of these though is to make the most of the time together. The mentoring times you will get is invaluable but be prepared to see the whole being of a person that you have brought in to speak.
