Unmasking the Filtered Selfie: A Divine Perspective on Embracing Authenticity

 

Hello! I see you've clicked on this blog post, perhaps expecting some light-hearted banter about the selfie culture. Well, you're not wrong. But, buckle up, because we're going on a journey deeper than the Valencia filter on your latest social media post.

Let's talk about selfies. Not just any selfies, but the ones with the filters that make your skin glow like a Greek goddess, your eyes enlarge or sparkle like the Pacific Ocean, and your teeth whiter than a tube of Colgate's finest. Sounds familiar? 

Now, before we dive in, let's get one thing straight. I have nothing against a good filter. After all, who doesn't like to add a little drama to their sunsets or a vintage vibe to their picture of a latte? But when every single selfie is filtered, then my friend, we might have a problem.

Let's take a trip back to the Bible. In Proverbs 31:30, it says, "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." Now, I'm not saying that posting filtered selfies means you're not a God-fearing person. But the emphasis here is on the fleeting nature of physical beauty. This can apply to men as well. 

Now, I hear you saying, "But I just like to look my best!" And that's perfectly fine. But when our pursuit of 'looking our best' becomes an obsession, it might be a sign of deeper insecurities. And let's face it, we all have those. But remember, the Bible also teaches us in Psalm 139:14, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." 

Our insecurities often stem from the fact that we compare ourselves with others. But hey, even the most 'perfect' Instagram model has his/her off days. They just don't post them. 

Aging, wrinkles, laugh lines - they're all part of the natural process. They're the badges of a life well-lived, and each one tells a story. So why not embrace them? After all, as the saying goes, "Do not regret growing older. It's a privilege denied to many."

Remember, the next time you're about to post a selfie, take a moment. Consider posting one without a filter. Let your true self shine through. 

And if anyone comments about your wrinkles or your not-so-white teeth, just tell them, "I'm aging like a fine wine, and this is my vintage look." Now, that's a filter no one can argue with!
